• What are the admission requirements for distance learning courses?

• Are there any prerequisites in terms of knowledge or skills?

  If you wish to enroll in a beginner's course (e.g. Literal Arabic distance learning diploma - DL 1, 2, 3), no prior knowledge of the chosen language is required.
  If you already have a certain level and wish to enroll in DL2/DLC2 or DL3/DLC3, you can contact the course coordinator directly to take a placement test.

   

• What are the deadlines for submitting my application?

• Is there a specific registration period or is registration continuous?

• What teaching methods are used in distance learning courses?

• Are courses entirely online or do they include face-to-face sessions?

  This depends on whether the course is co-modal or bi-modal. In fact, some courses offer monthly face-to-face sessions.

• What platforms are used to follow courses and interact with teachers?

  Teachers often use Zoom for synchronous lessons and Moodle as a teaching and learning platform.

• On average, how long does it take to complete a distance learning course?

  In the case of institutional diplomas, the average duration is one year for each diploma (e.g. DL1 in Burmese lasts 1 year and so on for DL2, DL3); in the case of the International Master of Armenian Studies, the duration is 2 years (Master 1 and Master 2).

   

• Are the courses organized in modules, and what is the pace of work?

• How much does a distance learning course cost?

• What payment options are available (payment in instalments, scholarships, etc.)?

• Am I enrolled in a program that delivers a diploma, certification or certificate of competence?

  This depends on the course. For degree programs, Inalco offers :

- National diploma: International Master of Armenian Studies (IMAS).

- Diploma of establishment (including language diploma, language and civilization diploma and civilization diploma): Arabic, Burmese, Estonian, Modern Hebrew, Lithuanian, Malagasy, Slovak, Rromani, Tibetan, Islamology.

Inalco also offers non-degree courses: Inuktitut distance learning for francophones, Vietnamese course (Investing and working in Vietnam).

• Is your certification recognized by companies and institutions?

  Our national diplomas are state-approved, accredited and listed on the répertoire national des certifications professionnelles - RNCP. What's more, the diplomas awarded by Inalco are recognized by numerous organizations and companies that have placed their trust in us, and in some cases are even partners of our establishment.

   

• Is it possible to validate my prior learning or receive credit for courses I've already taken?

• How can I obtain an official copy of my diploma or certification once the program is over?

  Diplomas and certificates are made available by the school's Registrar's Office, and students are informed of collection dates by e-mail. Further details: diploma-collection. 

• How can I access the libraries or online resources during the course?

  The Bibliothèque universitaire des Langues et civilisation (BULAC) offers a range of print, online and heritage collections. You can access information on these different resources here: https://www.bulac.fr/tout-un-monde-de-ressources. 

   

• Are there forums or discussion groups to exchange ideas with other students?

  Discussion forums are available on Moodle. Created by the teachers to facilitate exchanges and discussions in class, they can be accessed as required once enrolment has been finalized.

   

• Is there any administrative support for distance learners?

• What career opportunities are there after completing this course?

  Inalco's courses offer countless career opportunities, mainly in teaching, translation, interpreting, multilingual engineering, international relations, tourism and cultural mediation. The press, publishing and communications sectors also employ language graduates.

  Proficiency in one or more languages is also an asset when it comes to working in the humanitarian sector. To benefit from a wider range of career opportunities, it is advisable to complement your language training with a specialization in law, communications or business, for example.

• Do distance learning students have the same opportunities for internships or work placements as face-to-face students?

  Diploma courses with a minimum course load of 200 hours per year are eligible for an internship agreement. More details: internship-agreements. 

  All students enrolled in the program are offered the opportunity to take part in job placement activities. These include appointments with an advisor, access to a Jobteaser career space and a strong alumni network. More details: preparing-enter-job-market.
