File admissibility
File admissibility
- Examination of the file
The Doctoral School management is mandated by the Scientific Council to carry out a preliminary examination of the dossier, in order to assess its admissibility. The procedure provides for a commission to be set up to examine the dossier and give a detailed opinion on whether the procedure should continue.
This commission is made up of three research directors from the Doctoral School, appointed by the Doctoral School Director and the Vice-President of the Scientific Council.
After the meeting of this committee, the candidate is responsible for sending to the rapporteurs and jury members:
- documents 2 and 3 of the administrative file
. - documents 1, 2 and 3 of the scientific dossier.
- Appointment of three rapporteurs
This is carried out by the President of the Institute and the Director of the Doctoral School, who will have obtained the competent opinion of the committee. The President entrusts the task of examining the candidate's work to at least three rapporteurs chosen for their competence, at least two of whom must be qualified to direct research. Two of these rapporteurs must not belong to the teaching staff of the establishment where the candidate has submitted his or her application.
.
- Consultation of the application
Prior to the defense a summary of the books or works is available at the doctoral school. Reports may be consulted by any person authorized to supervise research.
- Decision of the Scientific Advisory Board
The personalities consulted make their opinions known in written, reasoned reports, on the basis of which the oral presentation of the candidate's work to the jury may be authorized. The reports are forwarded to the Scientific Council (in a session restricted to authorized teachers), which decides whether to continue with the procedure. The candidate's file (excluding reports) may be consulted at the doctoral school by authorized members of the Scientific Advisory Board. Reports must be received two weeks before the Scientific Advisory Board meeting. Board members will also be provided with the candidate's curriculum vitae and list of publications. In all cases, reports are sent to the candidate once they have been read by the Scientific Advisory Board.
.
Authorization to defend
Authorization to defend
If the Scientific Advisory Board approves the continuation of the procedure, the defense authorization is issued. It is signed by the President of Inalco and countersigned by the Director of the Doctoral School. Information is sent to the other universities and to the CNU (by Internet).
.
- The choice of jury (form)
The jury comprises a minimum of five members, the majority of whom are from outside the establishment. At least half the members must be university professors or equivalent. The rapporteurs who carried out the assessment may be appointed as members of the jury. The jury appoints a chairman from among its members. After obtaining the opinions of the jury members, the jury chairman draws up a report, countersigned by all jury members. The report is sent to the candidate. No honors are awarded.
- The defense
The defense is organized by the secretariat in liaison with the coordinator. The doctoral studies department is responsible for administrative correspondence with jury members (invitations, mission orders, etc.).
The coordinator is responsible for:
- setting the date, time and place of the defense, in agreement with the Doctoral School department
. - reserving the examination room (examination authorization form to be obtained from the secretariat or downloaded from the Inalco website)
. - specify any financial and administrative implications for the participation of each member of the jury (requests for mission orders, travel and subsistence expenses, etc.), and discuss with the Doctoral School department how to cover the costs of the defense
