PRESENTATION
PRESENTATION
Inalco is the only university in France, and one of the few in the world, to offer instruction in Burmese.
Training in Burmese is aimed at both those looking for initial core training and those wishing to complement another course taken previously or in parallel. The first-year course is designed for absolute beginners, so no prior knowledge of the language is required. Those who already have some knowledge of the language can contact the course leader for possible accommodations.
The aim of the three-year course is to equip students with linguistic skills that can be used directly for oral and written communication in Burmese, and for processing and translating all types of documents and texts written in this language (target proficiency level: A2 at end of 1st year, B1 at end of 2nd year and B2 at end of 3rd year).
Only the Burmese language courses are accessible by distance learning, enabling students to obtain a language diploma (DL, one of the types of institutional diplomas offered by Inalco), over three years. For the time being, HSS subjects leading to a full Bachelor's degree can only be taken face-to-face (or by final examination).
