A new representation of Taiwanese literature: Translating, transforming, interpreting

From the last century to the present day, the Taiwanese government and relevant academic and cultural institutions have continued to promote the link between Taiwanese literary works and foreign literary networks through literary translation policies and author exchange activities, and more and more works by Taiwanese authors have been translated into different languages to build bridges of "intercultural dialogue" with other cultures and countries. Thanks to foreign translations, foreign readers increasingly understand "what Taiwanese literature is all about". The "special characteristics of Taiwanese literature" have begun to expand and deepen with each passing year. The development and creation of "Taiwanese literature" is also part of the "know-how system" developed by Taiwan and its culture. The translation of literary works and the related export policy have created a means, a platform and an opportunity to revitalize contacts between Taiwan and other countries for "dialogue", "sharing" and "exchange". Over the years, literary studies specialists have organized a number of academic and cultural events in France on the theme of "Taiwanese literature", which have produced a large number of research results and benefits from the point of view of translations, writers' biographies, literary history and literary analysis, among other research topics.
Therefore, in order to avoid repeating statements and models that have already been explored, in addition to broadening the perspective of reflection on the development of Taiwanese literature,
Moreover, with the declaration of modernity and the concept of progress in the twentieth century, the twenty-first century has been built with the development of high technology and digital devices. Contemporary life resembles the models described and imagined in science fiction literature, where everyday life is filled with digital products and images. The direct relationship between people is progressively focused on a small dialogue window. A palm-sized object, like a creation from Roland Barthes' mythology, satisfies and realizes man's desire for convenience. The quest for "convenience" has led "contemporaries" to reconstruct the mode of interaction between "people and things". People gradually drifted away and forgot, or never deeply understood, the process and feeling of reading an academic book by turning a page with their fingertips. Therefore, following on from the question raised above, this symposium also aims to bring together academics from different fields to discuss how to motivate contemporary people to know and read literary works, and then to establish a normal interactive relationship with literature.
Starting from the two qualities of the concept of "turning/transforming", which present two dynamisms of change and innovation, the symposium will expand the concept to include "translation", "transmutation" and "interpretation", which express different levels of thought and tendencies of concern, but can inspire, transform and cooperate with each other.
The concepts of "translation" continue to be used in the same way as the concept of "transcreation". The meaning of "translation" is in line with the current interpretation of the term in Taiwan, particularly in the field of literature, where it expresses the manifestation of interconnection and dialogue in interdisciplinary media. The embodiment and outcome of "translation" can range from "translation" and "foreign translation" to its commercialization, focusing on the possibility of "transforming" Taiwanese literature and integrating it with other media.
The term "trans-art" also carries the mission and pursuit of "transformation" and focuses on the possibilities of "literary" works and "art" intersecting with multimedia and cross-media, and how they can become the origin and elements of cross-cultural communication and inspiration for cross-cultural creativity. Taiwanese literary works have been transformed into works of art for many years, but the focus here is on presenting new contemporary "trans-art" works, paying particular attention to the "intercultural" creative process, modes of transformation and resulting networks of exchange. In this context, the term "intercultural" encompasses reflections on interactions between different ethnic groups, fields, art media and languages in Taiwan, rather than exchanges with other cultures or organizations.
Finally, the term "translation" emphasizes the "narrative" power of the word "translation", and the process of "transformation" is also an opportunity, a right and a performance that allows each participant and each medium to "interpret" and "reinterpret". In the projects and results of the "translation" or "transmutation" process, new directions and approaches to the discourse of "Taiwanese" literature have been developed and discovered, particularly new arguments developed in Taiwan.
