Screening of "Pavillon VI" (1978) by Lucian Pintilie

Pavilion VI by Lucian Pintilie, 1978 | Yugoslavia | 97 min | Serbian VO with French subtitles
In a psychiatric hospital in Tsarist Russia, a doctor meets up with a former pupil, interned for his political ideas. The doctor listens to his patient's demands and develops a new vision of reality that does not please his colleagues.
After Chekhov's short story.
Lucian Pintilie is Romania's finest director, but he hasn't been able to shoot in his own country for many years, so he made this film in Yugoslavia. The film stands out for its powerful, sober description of this "house of the dead", where condemned prisoners on probation are slowly being destroyed by violence and madness.
Marcel Martin, Cinema, June 1979
The screening will be followed by a discussion with Irena Bilic (director of the L'Europe autour de l'Europe festival) and Andreï Lebedev (Inalco) moderated by Stéphane Sawas (Inalco).
