"The Oriental Library of Beirut (Saint-Joseph University), a revealed heritage".
CERMOM invites you to the screening of the film "La Bibliothèque Orientale de Beyrouth (Université Saint-Joseph), un patrimoine révélé" (2024)

The Oriental Library (BO) in Beirut was founded at the end of the 19th century by the Jesuit fathers of the Near East Mission. It was initially their private library, which they used for their work as teachers, scholars and men of letters engaged in the debates of their time. Over the years, the Jesuits built up a substantial collection of printed works in European (mainly French) and Arabic languages, as well as manuscripts (mainly in Arabic). More than 150 years later, the Oriental Library has become one of Lebanon's largest heritage libraries, but is unfortunately little-known. The aim of the documentary "La Bibliothèque orientale, un patrimoine révélé" is to bring it to light.
