Meet Victoria Amelina

Book presentation
Writer Victoria Amelina was thirty-six years old when Vladimir Putin unleashed war on February 24, 2022, by invading Ukraine. A human rights activist, she immediately went into the field to document the crimes committed by the Russians in real time, so that when the day came, she could help bring them to justice. She decided to keep a war diary, which would also be a diary of justice. As a chronicler, she follows the progress of Ukrainian heroines who, like her, have followed the trail of disaster with admirable courage. On July 1, 2023, she succumbed to her wounds following a Russian missile strike in the Donetsk region.
Watching Women Watch War is her investigation, a unique and moving testimony. The extensive interview Victoria Amelina conducted in Lviv in October 2022 with lawyer and writer Philippe Sands, which she wished to reproduce in this book, sheds light on the relevance of her view of the conflict.
This book, which she paid for with her life, is our legacy.
