CERLOM

The CERLOM (Centre d'Etude et de Recherche sur les Littératures et les Oralités du Monde)possesses unique local, national and international expertise on the oral and written arts and literatures of the five continents, composed in languages little or not studied at all within both French and foreign universities. The work of the center's researchers covers nearly thirty geocultural areas in Eastern Europe, the Near and Middle East, Asia, America and Africa.

The approaches accord equal importance to contemporaneity and the long term: similar attention is thus paid to classical, modern and contemporary literary and artistic expressions.

Finally, translation is central to the work of almost all the center's researchers. CERLOM, at the heart of cosmopolitan Paris, is thus in constant interaction with the social, economic and cultural environment, and intends to forge links with contemporary French society by disseminating the world's literatures and arts through translation and research.

Thus, by varying the scales of analysis, chronological sequences and objects of study from one event to the next, CERLOM intends to develop an interdisciplinary approach to the artistic and literary fact.
