CERLOM research axes
The "Centre d'Etude et de Recherche sur les Littératures et les Oralités du Monde" boasts unique local, national and international expertise in the oral and written arts and literatures of the five continents, composed in languages little or not studied at all in both French and foreign universities. The work of the center's researchers covers nearly thirty geocultural areas in Eastern Europe, the Near and Middle East, Asia, America and Africa.
1. The history of the world's literatures: towards a comparative approach
The "The history of the world's literatures: towards a comparative approach" axis studies the relationship that written and oral literary expressions have with heritage. Studies of literary history and comparative literature are too often dissociated. Yet writing new literary histories in the fields of each of the center's researchers requires upstream methodological reflection in a comparative and interdisciplinary approach.
2. Texts and globalization: translations, exchanges, alterities
The "Texts and globalization: translations, exchanges, alterities" axis considers the diversity of written and oral texts in the dynamics of exchanges on a local, national and international scale. Reflection on translation here goes hand in hand with the practice and teaching of translation and with comparative research on so-called deterritorialized literatures.
3. Literatures and arts of the world
The "Literatures and arts of the world" axis addresses the links that unite literary creation and artistic creation from one continent to another. The focus is on literature and cinematographic creation on the one hand, and the spoken word on the other.
4. Audiovisual creation and world societies
The "Audiovisual creation and world societies" axis develops projects straddling several cultural areas around audiovisual creations and media productions following a comparative approach (or not) and diversified approaches: literary, aesthetic or stemming from information and communication sciences.
