Scientific advisory board

The Scientific Advisory Board proposes research policy guidelines to the Board of Directors. It is consulted on the titles to be given to teaching and research posts, on the establishment contract, and on applications for accreditation. It is chaired by the Institute's President, Jean-François Huchet, and its Scientific Vice-President, Peter Stockinger. In addition to the President of Inalco and the Director of BULAC, it comprises a maximum of 40 members, including 6 postgraduate students.

As a consultative body, the Scientific Council proposes to the Board of Directors - in application of the texts in force (article 20 of the decree of May 14, 1990)- the orientations of research policies, scientific and technical documentation and the distribution of research credits.

It approves the creation of research units, defines their standard status and organizes the evaluation of scientific activity. It facilitates the link between teaching and research, particularly in the 3e cycle. It is consulted on the reallocation of vacant teaching-research posts and on the creation of teaching posts.

Within the framework of the texts in force, it gives its opinion:

  • on contracts or agreements to be entered into by the President when such contracts concern research activities or their valorization;
  • on research programs,
  • on the possibility of preparing theses or works jointly with other establishments;
  • applications for accreditation to award national diplomas and proposed deletions;
  • proposals for the creation of specific diplomas;
  • establishment contract;
  • recruitment of contract teachers and lecturers;
  • requests for reclassification.

Within the framework of the texts in force (Decree of May 25, 2016 setting the national framework for training and the procedures leading to the award of the national doctoral diploma ), it is informed each year:

  • of the list of beneficiaries of doctoral contracts and other types of funding
  • of the list of beneficiaries of derogation (registration in 4th year and more)

In formation restreinte aux personnalités habilitées à diriger des recherches, it proposes:

  • registrations for habilitation to direct research (HDR)
  • leaves of absence for research and thematic conversions requested by teacher-researchers;
  • professors for emeritus status
