FAQ
FAQ
I'd like to become a literary translator. Can I enroll in your master's program?
No. The "specialized translation" track focuses exclusively on non-literary translation. Inalco's Master's in Translation and Interpreting also offers a course in Literary Translation.
I don't have a TOEIC/TOEFL certificate. Please note that we require proof of a very good level of English before you can take our admission tests. In the absence of a TOEIC/TOEFL-type certificate, you can present the results of an LCE or LEA-type degree, proof of a stay in an English-speaking country, etc.
The TOEFL may be required by some of our partner universities for the integrated semester.
Can I replace English with another language I know better?
No. English is used as a common base for translation courses (professional specialization). Even if Inalco promotes linguistic diversity, it is unrealistic to want to become a translation professional without an excellent command of English.
I don't live in France. Is it possible to take the exams abroad?
lThe admission exams will be held in person at Inalco. If you are unable to come to Inalco, please contact the teaching staff.
Any absence from a test is eliminatory.
How to prepare for the tests?
We do not make any annals available to candidates. The tests are designed to assess your competence in French, English and Oriental languages. Candidates are assessed on their ability to translate, their spelling, the richness and precision of their expression and their analytical skills.
Is there a 2nd application session in September?
No.
Can I apply for Master 2?
No. For the 2023-2024 year, entry into M2 will not be possible.
I don't have a bachelor's degree in Oriental language. What level is required?
The L3 license, which gives access to Inalco's masters programs, generally corresponds to CEFR level B2 (ability to understand the essential content of concrete or abstract topics in a complex text, including a technical discussion).
I'm studying two languages at Inalco. Can I keep them in this Master's program?
The current structure of our Master's program only allows you to validate one oriental language. However, we encourage you to continue learning both languages in order to make the most of this competitive advantage on the job market.
Can I do a double master?
No, you cannot do a double master as attendance is essential and the integrated semester abroad is compulsory.
