“An Exceptional Man”: Michel Chicouène (1936-2017)

Michel Chicouène was the meticulous and untiring author of an overhaul of Russian and Lithuanian grammars. Throughout his time teaching at Inalco (1965- 2001), he demonstrated how seeking a “pedagogical grammar” – and the resulting innovations – could be a source of scientific discovery. It is time to share his invaluable legacy with a new audience. The republications, unpublished material, analysis and testimony in this anthology will help make that happen.

Editors

Hélène de Penanros is a senior lecturer in Lithuanian language and literature at Inalco. She has published works in Lithuanian, Russian and French microlinguistics (Sedyl laboratory, CNRS UMR research unit 8220).

Rémi Camus is a lecturer in Russian grammar and general linguistics at Inalco. He is the author of works in Russian and French formal linguistics (MoDyCo laboratory, CRS UMR research unit 7114).
