Publication of the collective work: "Migrants from Asia, migrants in Asia".
L'Ifrae is pleased to announce the publication of the collectrif co-edited by Pauline Cherrier, Hui-yeon Kim, Isabelle Konuma: "Migrants d'Asie, migrants en Asie: Parcours, mémoires et récits de trajectoires migratoires peu connues".
How does the need for identity reconstruction and cultural and linguistic transmission arise in migrants? Does immigration provide migrants and host countries with solutions to problems that would otherwise be insoluble? How does the place of migrants in their country of origin affect their role in the country of arrival, and vice versa? To what extent can the issues at stake in host countries influence the conditions of migrants? The contributions to this multi-disciplinary book seek to answer these questions by focusing on its field, namely migrants in Asia, migrants from Asia. Starting with a singular or collective migratory case, the authors examine the intersection of historical, political and social contexts, the resulting migratory paths, the frustrations and modes of emancipation of migrants, and the challenge posed by their presence in host countries. In this way, the nine chapters contribute to a better understanding of migratory phenomena in the Asian context by presenting a varied sample of migratory situations that differ both in their nature (immigration through marriage, ethnic immigration, colonial immigration, exile, etc.) and in the way they are analyzed (historical, literary, political, sociological approach, etc.). They also call for reflection on the specificities of the terms migrant and immigrant, which are declined in different ways according to historical, geographical and political contexts.
The book is in free access and downloadable here.
