Contenu central
When it was first published in 1948, this text made anthropologist Fei Xiaotong (1910-2005) one of the greatest names in Chinese social science. Trained in China and Great Britain before the Second World War, Fei Xiaotong's comparative analysis of Chinese society is orchestrated around three planes: town and country, past and present, West and China. At the heart of this undertaking, the quest for "roots" opens onto a characterization of Chinese society based on "order by distinction of status". This book has been translated into French for the first time.
