The Inalco-VoVf Translation Prize

The Translation Prize, launched in 2019 by Inalco in partnership with the Vo-Vf Festival, rewards a translation into French from one of the languages taught at the Institute. Endowed with 1000 euros, this prize is designed to highlight the quality of a translator's work, as well as the richness of literatures that are sometimes still little known to the general public because they are often less widely distributed.

The Inalco Translation Prize 2021 will be awarded on October 3, 2021 in Gif-sur-Yvette (Essonne), at the close of the 9th edition of the Festival Vo-Vf, le monde en livres - la parole aux traducteurs.

Pre-selected works

Six titles have been shortlisted for the Inalco Translation Prize:

• La femme qui a mangé les lèvres de mon père, by Tudor Ganea, translated from Romanian by Florica Courriol, Le Nouvel Attila, 2020.
• Sillages, by Kallia Papadaki, translated from Greek by Clara Villain, Cambourakis, 2019.
• La death and his brother, by Khosraw Mani, translated from Persian from Afghanistan by Sabrina Nouri, Actes-Sud, 2020.
• La complainte de la limace, by Zahra Abdi, translated from Persian from Iran by Christophe Balaÿ, Belleville éditions, 2020.
• Les Jangos, by Abdelaziz Baraka Sakin, translated from Sudanese Arabic by Xavier Luffin, Zulma, 2020.
• Journal (The Hungarian Years 1943-1948) by Sàndor Màrai, translated from Hungarian by Catherine Fay, Albin Michel, 2019.

The 2nd edition of the Prize rewarded Chloé Billon for her translation from Croatian of the novel Les turbines du Titanic, by Robert Perišić, published by Gaïa Editions, 2019.
The 1st edition of the Prize had rewarded Maud Mabillard for her translation from Russian of the novel Zouleikha ouvre les yeux by Gouzel Iakhina, published by Editions Noir sur Blanc in 2017.
