Launched in 2017, Inalco's MOOCs can be accessed worldwide via the France Université Numérique (FUN) platform. These "contact kits" offer beginners cultural cues as well as an oral and written initiation centered around several tasks enabling a first contact in the language: introducing oneself, getting around, finding accommodation, eating, making a purchase...

The "contact kit in oriental languages" : Chinese

Respecting the specificity of the Chinese language, the training focuses on the fundamental knowledge of the Chinese language, based on simple oral and written tasks referenced in level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

With language training, the MOOC emphasizes the cultural dimension, knowledge of which is essential for making contact with a foreign speaker while respecting and understanding their codes and values.

Training schedule

What you'll learn

At the end of the course, you'll be able to:

  • greet each other in a simple way,
  • introduce yourself (identity, phone number, origin, family),
  • understand and request similar information from your interlocutors.

Format

The MOOC lasts 10 weeks with one week of introduction and six weeks of training. The course is organized around a variety of tasks:

  • understand a video dialogue,
  • understand text and vocabulary,
  • memorize sinograms and their components,
  • acquire grammar points and grasp cultural traits,
  • lecture presentations and situational video dialogues,
  • oral and written exercises, quizzes and an exchange forum.

Accompanying resources provide information and explanations on the language system, as well as a lexicon containing common terms and expressions.

Assessment and certification

Self-correction exercises and practice exercises on sinograms are offered in each lesson. You will also be asked to answer quizzes and other types of questions.

Certification is offered and can be obtained by successfully validating the tests in a distance exam. This certification will have university recognition (4 ECTS).
