Meet Gilles Guiheux, specialist in the socio-history of China and Taiwan (CESSMA)
The "Portraits of Researchers in Area Studies" (PEA) is a series of large-format interviews produced by Inalco as part of the Digital Paris Research School of Area Studies (D-PaRSAS) institutional project. Deposited on the MediHal open archive, this series of portraits joins a set of collections on the Language and Cultural Area Studies (LaCAS) platform. These collections aim to build up a living, freely accessible scientific heritage of research on the world's languages, societies and cultures.

Gilles Guiheux is a University Professor at Université Paris Cité. A specialist in the socio-history of China, he is particularly interested in the Taiwanese economy and the figure of the entrepreneur in China.
A graduate in Economic and Social Sciences and an alumnus of ENS Paris-Saclay, he was a researcher and then director of the CEFC (Centre d'études français sur la Chine Contemporaine) in Hong Kong. He was Vice-President of the European Association of Chinese Studies from 2012 to 2014, a member of Section 40 of the CNRS National Committee from 2012 to 2016, and Director of Cessma from 2014 to 2018.
Gilles Guiheux is also scientific co-director of the IDEX project d-PaRSAS - Digital Paris Research School of Area Studies (Inalco/Université Paris Cité), a technical and editorial platform project designed to facilitate the production, archiving and valorization of multimodal data (audiovisual, visual, sound, textual, 3D, ...) that document research on cultural and linguistic areas.
