The aim of the APEN 2021 congress is to question the notion of the North and to reflect on its content and limits, studying it from different angles and paying particular attention to exchanges, circulations and imaginaries, both present and past, in the space stretching from Iceland to the eastern Baltic.

Between Scandinavia and the Eastern Baltic

IVth Congress of the Association for Nordic Studies (APEN)

This event is a continuation of previous editions of the APEN congress, which aims to promote French-speaking Nordic studies and bring together researchers and PhD students from a variety of disciplines (anthropology, visual arts, cinematography, economics, geography, history, literature, linguistics, sociology, political science, translatology, etc.) with a common interest in the French-speaking Nordic sphere.

The aim of the 2021 congress is to interrogate the notion of the North and to reflect on its content and limits, studying it from different angles and paying particular attention to exchanges, circulations and imaginaries, both present and past, in the space stretching from Iceland to the eastern Baltic.

From this perspective, questions arise: What unites or used to unite this Nordic space to which the eastern shores of the Baltic belong? What divided or divided it? What transcends the divisions in this space or its subspaces?
