Introduction to the history and historiography of the Jewish worlds 2023-2024
Training
Organized in partnership with EPHE-PSL (master CCS, Histoire et culture des Juifs et du judaïsme : sources et patrimoine and master SRS, Histoire et historiographie des mondes juifs) and INaLCO (master LLCER, Hebraic and Jewish Studies), this introductory course in Jewish history, aimed primarily at master's students, presents the cultural, political and social processes that led to the creation and maintenance of Jewish groups in their diversity and environments, while opening up particular fields of history. It pays particular attention to the main currents that have run through them, and includes a historiographical and methodological approach to several temporal and geographical areas: the Orient, Northern and Eastern Europe, the Maghreb and the Middle East. Specialists in each geographical area, historical period or current of thought will offer summaries of current research issues, including methodology.
