On September 16, Mahsa (Zhina) Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian woman, was beaten to death by the Islamic Republic of Iran's morality police. In the wake of this tragedy, Iranian society exploded in revolt, crying out "women, life, freedom". Secondary school teachers, students and their professors went on strike. To date, this massive movement has affected more than ten universities.

Inalco expresses its total solidarity with the Iranian university community, students, colleagues and, more broadly, with Iranian civil society as a whole, committed to the struggle for women's rights and the defense of civil liberties. It strongly condemns the violent repression affecting them.

At a time when the death toll is already in the dozens, and the arbitrary arrests of thousands of activists are multiplying, at a time when Internet access has been cut off in an attempt to hinder the mobilization, Inalco calls for an expression of unreserved solidarity from the entire international academic community, commensurate with the courage shown by the women and men of Iran, by the demonstrators, by the strikers who are risking their lives today.
