Study Maltese at Inalco

This introductory course invites students to explore Maltese, Europe's only Semitic language written in Latin characters. At the crossroads of the Arab and European worlds, Maltese offers a fascinating terrain for study, with its Sicilian, Italian and English influences. The program covers the history of the language, the specific features of its alphabet and the phonological nuances that distinguish it from Arabic. Students will become familiar with the major features of its morphology and syntax, while analyzing the richness of a lexicon marked by centuries of linguistic borrowings.

Training courses

The Maltese course is offered as an in-depth teaching within the framework of the Licence LLCER, "Middle East-Maghreb" Maghreb Arabic course.
