Rromani language and civilization distance learning diploma
Inalco offers an introduction to Rromani civilization and language, several dialects of which are presented in this first-year distance diploma, essentially the dialects of Romania-Hungary and the Balkans. Entry into writing is via the standardized orthography, chosen in 1990 by the International R(r)omani Union Congress in Warsaw.
The courses are structured as follows: grammar, oral comprehension, oral expression, written comprehension, dialectology, civilization. The method focuses on everyday communication situations (introductions, meetings, family, spatial orientation, everyday activities, memories ... ) through dialogues or monologues. Over the course of the lessons, basic grammar points are covered for most dialects of Central and Eastern European Rromani.
Civilization courses address the place of Rromani in majority societies, the question of identity, the place of language, traditional values (family and social structures), customary law, movement and sedentariness, the presence of Rromani in the media and cultural industry, festivals, rituals and traditional professions. At the end of two semesters, students will be able to validate a diploma in Rromani language and civilization at Licence 1 level.
