Intensive language courses
The intensive course is designed for people wishing to take an intensive introduction to an Oriental language (mainly oral). This course is designed for people up to CEFR level A.1 (beginners or false beginners).
Intensive introductory courses level 1.1 (absolute beginner) and level 1.2 (false beginner)
Continuing Education offers you the chance to take part in a 30-hour intensive course spread over a full week in person or over 5 consecutive weekends in distance learning.
Initiate yourself in one of our available oriental languages* with our qualified and experienced teachers.
*Literal Arabic, Chinese, written Chinese, Korean, Hindi, Japanese, Persian, Russian, Swahili, Czech, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, or any other language taught in initial training at Inalco subject to a minimum number of trainees).
Come discover or rediscover the language of your choice by choosing your level:
- Level 1.1: no language level is required (absolute beginner level)
- Level 1.2: have followed the Level 1 course.1 or 30 hours of lessons in the requested language (false beginner level)
After each course, trainees receive a certificate of completion.
PLEASE NOTE: The intensive course is demanding in terms of personal work. You need to take into account the number of hours of training plus the home work involved (for a 30-hour course, allow 10 to 20 hours of additional personal work).

8 Onsite training sessions confirmed, from June 30 to July 4th 2025, 2025 from 10am to 5pm, i.e. 6 hours a day on site at Inalco.
Sessions for the 2025-2026 year
Winter session :
- Onsite training, from January 12th to Jnuary 16th 2026 from 10am to 5pm, i.e. 6 hours a day on site at Inalco.
- Remote training, from January 9th to February 7th 2026, Fridays from 6pm to 8:30pm and Saturdays from 9:30am to 1pm on Zoom.
Summer session :
- Onsite training, from June 29th to July 3th 2026 from 10am to 5pm, i.e. 6 hours a day on site at Inalco.
- Remote training, from June 5th to July 4th 2026, Fridays from 6pm to 8:30pm and Saturdays from 9:30am to 1pm on Zoom.

Registrations for the summer 2025 session are now closed.
Registration for the winter session, scheduled in January/February 2026, will begin in November 2025 on our registration website.
The intensive courses are not eligible for Pôle Emploi or OPCO funding.

The 30-hour introductory course (level 1.1)
This course is essentially focused on oral practice through simulations and role-play.
In languages where this is possible, a few hours will be devoted to learning the alphabet to be able to read directly and use supports without going through sometimes complex transcription systems.
During this great beginner level course, trainees will be placed in the simplest situations of everyday conversation enabling the acquisition of survival vocabulary and simple structures for minimum everyday communication.
Phonetics : improve pronunciation, transition to writing, accent and intonation, some basic phonetic rules.
Language practice : the use, mainly in dialogues, of vocabulary and locutions relating to the following areas:
- human beings, belonging and identification (nationality, profession),
- positioning in space (city, country, travel),
- family, working life, leisure,
- numbers, numbers and time,
- description of family, friends, introducing oneself, thanking, welcoming.
The 30-hour introductory course (level 1.2)
This course, at level faux-débutant, supplements the skills acquired in level 1 and helps develop vocabulary, improve pronunciation, introduce writing and tackle more complex syntactic structures (relatives, complements, negative, affirmative and interrogative forms, etc.) through simulations and role-playing.
Trainees are placed in everyday conversational situations to enrich the basic structures and vocabulary acquired during the Level 1 course.
Phonetics: improve fluency of pronunciation, accent and intonation, the main phonetic rules.
Language practice: at the end of this course, trainees are able to express themselves orally in more complex everyday situations:
- express will, wish, opinion,
- justify a point of view or opinion,
- ask for directions, place an order in a restaurant, go shopping, make a phone call, send an email, book a hotel room, etc.
ATTENTION IN JAPANESE to follow the Level 1.2 course, you must be able to read and write in hiragana and katakana.

* All requests for quotes must be made six weeks before the start of the training course.
