"How to listen?" The case of listening practices in Norway

Janet Connor is a lecturer at Leiden University in the Netherlands. She holds a PhD in anthropology and linguistics from the University of Chicago. Her research adopts a linguistic anthropological approach to exploring language in the public sphere, focusing particularly on the role of listening. Her current research project, based on ethnographic fieldwork in Oslo, examines how forms of listening are central to imaginaries and demands concerning the Norwegian democratic welfare state.
