Inalco honors the Jean Rouch Festival
For over 30 years, the Comité du film ethnographique has organized the Jean Rouch International Festival in Paris. Initiated by filmmaker and ethnologist Jean Rouch (1917-2004), this event is a unique opportunity in France to screen documentaries that reveal the social and cultural evolution of human societies and man's relationship with the environment. Around 26 films in competition from every continent, 8 prizes awarded, tributes to ethnological documentary filmmakers, themed sessions and debates.
Since 2012, Inalco has been associated with the Jean Rouch festival. Inalco analyzes movements in the world and society through its training and research in history, geography, politics, economics, political science and sociology. However, this cartography would be incomplete without ethnology, an essential discipline for understanding societies, particularly when it produces or relies on first-hand sources such as films. Each year, the Comité du film ethnographique and Inalco organize regards comparés around a special theme.

Besna's family is torn apart by the long Kurdish conflict in southeastern Turkey. Her son Enes disappeared in 2008 when he joined a Kurdistan Workers' Party militant group. With no news of him for years, she finally learned that Enes was fighting in Syria, in Rojava, against the Islamic State. Besna and her youngest son Selim, a filmmaker, then set off on a difficult, almost impossible journey from Turkey to Syria, via northern Iraq, to find "the lost son".

A psychiatric center in Tehran is implementing a revolutionary project: allowing marriage between inmates. These men and women in search of love will have to confront the prejudices of a traditionalist society. A sensitive and delicate film about intimate relationships and the complex notion of madness.
