Death of Chikako Thoyer
Training
Receiving her agrégation in Japanese language and culture in 1986, Chikako began her teaching career at the Lycée d'Hôtellerie et de Tourisme in St Quentin-en-Yvelines (1986-1993), then at the Lycée international de St Germain-en-Laye where she created and directed the Japanese Section (1993-1996).
In 1996, she joined the Japanese Studies Department at Inalco, first as Associate Professor (1996-1998) then as Senior Lecturer (1998-2018). She will have spent more than twenty years in our department, devoting herself unstintingly to her students and to the promotion of Japanese studies.
She will be remembered by her colleagues and students alike as a luminous, strong-willed woman, extremely committed to her work as a teacher, but also to her many administrative tasks.
Her work ethic compelled admiration. In addition to her many courses, Chikako was deputy director of the department from 2011 to 2015, then director from 2015 to 2018. From 2000 to 2015, she represented our department on the International Relations Committee, developing exchanges with Japanese universities. From 2011 to 2015, she was an elected member of the Board of Directors.
Chikako retired at the end of the 2018 academic year.
Her passing leaves a huge void in our department. Her colleagues and students will not forget her!
Our thoughts are with her two children Maya and Julian and her two grandchildren, "her love bombs".
