ContribuLing 2023, symposium dedicated to minority languages and digital solutions, May 12
Nearly half the world's languages are considered vulnerable or endangered by UNESCO. Yet one of the major levers for the survival of minority languages is their effective presence in the digital tools we use every day: keyboards, voice recognition, search engines, etc. The development of these tools itself requires the digitization of numerous linguistic data (lexicons, dictionaries, oral and written corpora, ontologies, etc.), and therefore the contribution of speakers. Numerous projects have been initiated in recent years to facilitate this contribution, several of which have been presented in previous editions of ContribuLing.
With the existence of these platforms, several methodological issues arise:
- What strategies should be adopted to encourage the active contribution of speakers?
- How are the data collected used to create tools tailored to the needs of the speaker community?
