The Émile Guimet Prize for Asian Literature

This prize, created to highlight the richness and diversity of Asian literature translated into French, was launched by the Musée Guimet in 2017. It distinguishes, under the presidency of Laure Adler, the original work of an author from Asia, recently translated and published in France. Its aim is to promote contemporary Asian literature and encourage cultural exchanges between Asia and France. The Prix Émile Guimet de littérature asiatique crowns a work in three categories: "Novel", "Comics" (a category created in 2024) and "Manga" (since 2025, in partnership with Inalco).

This prize is also a tribute to translators, veritable conduits of talent whose work is essential in enabling books to be published in France and fostering awareness of them.

The Manga category

The Inalco Student Prize for Manga recognizes a manga published in Japan and translated into French, as well as a Coup de Coeur award. This prize aims to reward a voice and an outlook that constitute a significant contribution to Japanese comics, while also helping to promote auteur manga and introduce this vast universe to France.

Jury composition

The jury is made up of five Inalco students from different departments. This jury is responsible for analyzing and debating around the selection of mangas in competition and electing a winner.

Manga selection

Eight mangas are selected by the Musée Guimet and Inalco. These must have been published in France for less than a year and represent the diversity of themes and genres in the manga universe.

Awards ceremony

Each year, an awards ceremony is held at the Musée Guimet. The winners in each of the three categories are announced at the ceremony, and each receives a cash prize. The winner of the manga category is awarded a 2,500-euro endowment from the museum.
