Workshop "A keyboard for writing in Teochew on your phone".

The ERTIM research team is organizing a workshop entitled "Un clavier pour écrire en teochew sur son téléphone" as part of the ANR DiLSi-HN project on Saturday November 16, 2024 from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm at Inalco, 65 Rue des Grands Moulins.

Teochew is a language native to the 潮州 (Chaozhou) region of China. Although spoken by a large diaspora, some of whom live in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, it remains largely unwritten. With this workshop, we propose to test a keyboard that allows you to write Teochew in order to encourage written practice of the language.

This didactic keyboard aims not only to facilitate text entry in Teochew, but also to help learn new words as you use it. Last but not least, it is designed to be accessible to all, including people who are not fluent in Chinese characters.

On the program:

- Introduction to peng'im: discover the transcription system for Teochew characters. Peng'im is also the main input mode on this keyboard.

- Getting to grips with the teochew keyboard: install the app on your iOS or Android phone and learn how to use the various Chinese character input features with this intuitive keyboard.
- Interactive mini-games: put keyboard input into practice through fun exercises.

This workshop requires no prior knowledge of Chinese characters or peng'im. However, a basic knowledge of teochew is recommended to get the most out of the experience.
