Online training can be seen as a remote presence device.

Four basic ingredients:

  • educational resources (text, image, sound, video),
  • instructional activities,
  • communication tools,
  • a scenario of the course.

For the activities, the instructions given to the students are fundamental, they must be clear, the nature of the activities or production expected and the deadlines must be precisely indicated.

Synchronous modes - teacher-student interaction possible in real time, videoconferencing, virtual classroom - give a stronger impression of presence, but are more complex to handle, due to the need to have all learners connected at the same time.

Asynchronous modes - no direct interaction, the learner chooses when to consult the resources deposited by the teacher, and when to complete the tasks requested - must offer task completion times that are both sufficient and not too spread out over time.

communication tools (forum, chat, e-mail) have an effect on pedagogical interactions.

The two main functions of the MOODLE platform are content presentation(often accompanied by testing) and pedagogical communication (forum, chat, homework).
