Research

The candidate will consider the convergence between his/her work and Inalco's intellectual and scientific identity, as embodied in the collective projects carried out by the establishment and its research units. Depending on his or her specialties, the teacher-researcher recruited will be able to join the research unit of his or her choice from among Inalco's own teams and UMRs under the (co)supervision of Inalco, in particular: CREE (Centre de recherche Europes-Eurasie)

The candidate's research work in "Finnish studies" covers the arts, geography, literature, political science, history, sociology or anthropology of Finland. The candidate is expected to demonstrate national and international visibility in one of these disciplines, as well as a very detailed knowledge of Finnish culture, contemporary society, history and/or politics. The ability to bring different disciplines into dialogue in his/her research activity will be highly appreciated.

Depending on his/her research projects, the candidate will be able to integrate his/her work into the "Production et diffusion des biens culturels", "Sociétés en mutation : politique, religion, territoires" or "Crises, conflits et risques" axes of CREE's 2025-2029 project. The candidate's ability to articulate the study of Finland with its close regional environment affecting the societies and countries of the Baltic Sea region will be highly valued. It is hoped that the person recruited will be able to develop the field of Finno-Ugric studies - personal research, coordination of projects and collective work, or involvement in the organization of the field (Revue des études finno-ougriennes).

The candidate is also expected to contribute to events and work organized with colleagues as part of CREE's "Baltic Spaces" project.
In addition to an excellent level (C1 minimum) in Finnish, a proven command of English is required and knowledge, at least passive, of one or more other languages (including Swedish, a Finno-Ugric language, German or Russian) is an asset.

The candidate is also expected to be a member of CREE's "History, Politics and Culture in Medieval Europe" doctoral seminar team. Depending on his or her field of expertise, he or she will also join the regional Master's seminar team. Finally, he/she is expected to make him/herself available as much as necessary for the UR's research promotion activities.
