When Hungary Turned Toward the West: The Impacts of the 13th Century—Society, Politics, Ideologies, and the Arts.

Around the year 1000, when Hungary joined the Latin Christian world, the transformation of Hungarian society and the nascent nation was only just beginning. To Western observers, even in the 12th century, Hungary still retained its “Eastern” characteristics. However, during the 13th century, a series of profound changes took place, as a result of which Hungary became Westernized.
