Sounds of Bhutan (contemporary Bhutanese creation)
Guitarist Tashi Dorji grew up in Bhutan, then moved to Asheville, North Carolina, to study in 2000. Shortly afterwards, he joined an anarchist punk community there. While the essence of his philosophy remains, his music has evolved: influenced by the rhythms and sounds of his homeland, he has moved from electro-acoustic experiments to rougher sounds oscillating between free jazz and experimental music. Currently on tour with Canadian band Godspeed You! Black Emperor, he agreed to come and perform at Inalco.
He is also the author of the soundtrack to the film "Dakini" by Bhutanese director Dechen Roder, which will be shown in the evening: detective Kinley investigates the disappearance of a Buddhist nun. He forms a stormy alliance with the main suspect, Choden, an attractive woman regarded by the villagers as a "demon". As Choden tells him stories of past Dakinis (enlightened, Buddhist women of power and wisdom), Kinley believes he glimpses the resolution of the investigation...

The traditional "Retreat of 3 Years and 3 Months" or "Lo Sum Choe Sum" is practiced by Buddhist monks, nuns and other dedicated practitioners. Three years, three months and three days is the time needed to reach a higher state of clarity and motivation. By cutting oneself off from the world and immersing oneself in one's inner mind, the retreat is meant to transform the practitioner. Can Lhamo, a wounded young girl facing the harsh gaze of the world, find her own form of retreat and redemption?
