Kisaki Satoko's literature: between life, religion and homeland
Kisako Satoko, winner of the 1984 Akutagawa Prize for her work Aogiri, has been marked since birth by the experience of crossing borders (ekkyô). Born in Manchuria, she returned to Japan at the end of the Second World War and spent her childhood in Takaoka (Toyama Prefecture). Her marriage gave her the opportunity to live in France and the United States. This rich experience was to shape her identity as a writer and strongly influence her works. The themes of life (seimei), religion (shûkyô) and homeland (furusato/kokyô), which run through all her work, are the main subjects of her literary oeuvre, woven through her cross-border experience. The talk will focus on Kisaki Satoko's writing in relation to this theme.
