Jean Rouch International Festival

The Comité du film ethnographique has been organizing the Festival international Jean Rouch in Paris for 40 years. Founded by filmmaker and ethnologist Jean Rouch (1917-2004), this festival is a unique event in France, dedicated to the screening of documentaries that explore the social and cultural dynamics of human societies, as well as the relationships between man and his environment.
Each year, the program includes around 26 films in competition, from all continents, divided around themed screenings, tributes to great ethnologist documentary filmmakers, and times for debate with the public. Eight prizes are awarded at the end of the festival.
Since 2012, the Inalco has been a partner of the Jean Rouch Festival. Its jury, made up of a student, a teacher and a member of staff, takes part in the international competition and awards the Prix Mondes en regards to one of the films linked to the school's cultural areas and disciplines. This prize, endowed with 1,000 euros, finances the French translation and subtitling of the winning film, which is then screened in the Inalco auditorium throughout the year.
The 2025 edition will be held from Thursday May 8 to Wednesday May 14 at the Musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac. Admission is free. Each screening is followed by a discussion with the filmmaker, as well as specialists in the subject matter.
