Japan Cultural Day

Every year, Inalco's student associations bring the heart of the Pôle des Langues et Civilisations (Paris 13th) to life, for one day each, to showcase the cultural and geographical areas they represent. Open to all, these days are a not-to-be-missed annual event!

On this day organized by the Dejima student association, visitors will have the opportunity to explore various aspects of traditional Japanese culture through discovery stands as well as lectures and performances in the auditorium. There will be language exchanges, as well as performances of koto (Japanese zither), taiko (Japanese drum) and rakugo (humorous storytelling). There will also be introductions to calligraphy, origami and traditional games, as well as matcha tea tasting. Be sure to sample Japanese dishes and round off this memorable day with karaoke, an unmissable Japan Day tradition.

Program

2th floor hall

  • 10am-6pm: tombola, La Boutique Chou (Japanese-inspired stationery and illustrations), bookshop Le Phénix (Asian specialist)
  • 11:30am-12:30pm: flavors of Japan: come and delight yourself with our Japanese dishes and desserts, all at an affordable price!
  • 1pm-6pm: various workshops including, the unmissable matcha service, origami, but also traditional games, and calligraphy!"

Auditorium

  • 1pm-2pm: rakugo show.
  • 2:10-3:10: koto show.
  • 3:15-4:15: lecture by Monsieur Defrance, Taira no Masakado, or why today's Japanese worship a 10th-century bandit
  • 4:20-5:20: lecture by Monsieur Takatsu.
  • 5:30pm-6pm: Hachijo-daiko show.

Rooms and amphitheaters

  • Room 3.15 - 12:30pm-2:30pm: language exchange workshop in partnership with Troque ta Langue.
  • Rakugo initiation: information to come.
  • Amphitheater 8 - 4pm-6pm: sanshin initiation.
  • Amphitheater 6 - 6pm-8pm: Dejima association karaoke and raffle results.
