Interlingual information retrieval for scientific literature in moderately endowed languages
We invite you to the first meeting of CLingS, a project funded under the CHIST-ERA ("Science in Your Language") program, whose ambition is to facilitate access to science and promote scientific production in languages other than English.
Launched in early 2026, CLingS aims to develop an innovative platform for accessing scientific literature for moderately endowed languages. Ultimately, users will be able to ask questions in natural language in their own language and obtain reliable answers, accompanied by bibliographic references.
The project covers seven languages - Belarusian, Estonian, Punjabi, Slovak, Taiwanese (Taigi), Ukrainian and Yiddish - which, despite their diversity, share still limited access to scientific resources.
Coordinated by France, CLingS brings together a complementary international consortium, combining IT expertise and pedagogical applications, and draws in particular on the unique strengths of Inalco.
At this kick-off meeting, we will present the general context of the project, as well as the challenges associated with information retrieval in a multilingual environment. The scientific objectives and main stages of the project will also be discussed.
The first day will be devoted to a presentation of the partner teams brought together in the project: the French team from Inalco, the Slovak team (Institute of Informatics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and Nitra University) and the Taiwanese team (National Academy for Educational Research and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University).
The second day will be dedicated to a round table discussion on the technical issues involved in implementing a multilingual scientific information retrieval system, followed by collaborative work sessions (brainstorming) involving the three project teams.
The general program for this meeting will be as follows:
