"Hosting the Olympic Games (Paris 2024): an economist's view" by Wladimir Andreff, Honorary Professor at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Observatoire de l'économie du sport, Ministère des Sports

In this conference, Wladimir Andreff will address four topics around the hosting of the Olympic Games in Paris:

  • The cost overrun announced at the time of the bid. Already exceeded by 31% for Paris 2024, the economist has three explanations for the phenomenon.
  • The economic impact triggered by the Olympic Games on the host territory. Three calculation methods suffer from possible biases overestimating the impact. Estimated in 2016 at between 5.3 and 10.7 billion euros over 17 years, the impact will be lower due to inflation.
  • The long-term legacy of the Olympic Games.
  • The economic forecast of the number of medals won per team.

Moderated by Assen Slim, university professor of economics and Inalco's deputy vice-president for research, delegated to open science and digital humanities.

Free admission.
