A conversation with W. Schabas. The internationalisation of the law and the fight against racial discrimination

The event opens with a session of the DISGLO (International Law and the Global South) seminar devoted to his latest book, The International Legal Order’s Colour Line, which traces how racism and racial discrimination became, from the end of the First World War onwards, fundamental issues in the development of international law. The discussion will focus on the book’s central argument and its relevance to contemporary debates on international law and the Global South.

The second part of the event will be dedicated to a preview screening of the interview Builders of a Common Law (ISJPS – CNRS and Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University), which features interviews with legal scholars who have shaped the internationalisation of law. The screening will be followed by a discussion with F. Tulkens (former Vice-President of the European Court of Human Rights), E. Decaux (former Chair of the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances) and G. Mettraux (judge at the Specialised Chambers for Kosovo).
