The Centre de Recherches Europes-Eurasie-CREE (Inalco) is honored to invite you to the lecture by Nikolai Anisimov entitled: "Communication between the living and the dead in Udmurt society".

Argument of the lecture

In contemporary Udmurt society, ancestor worship has not ceased to be present in the daily life of Udmurt people, especially in the countryside, but it has not disappeared in the cities. There are codes for receiving and transmitting messages with the ancestors, and as a result many Oudmourtes, including the younger generations, make important life decisions after "consulting" their deceased parents and grandparents. This conference will present this phenomenon based on field experience over the last few years.
