Modes of cultural expression and transmission in a context of migration, dual identity and digital omnipresence
PROBLEMATICS
In many parts of the world, populations are facing major social upheaval for a variety of reasons. Conflicts and even wars have led to rural exodus and migration, resulting in the depopulation of entire regions, both in rural areas and in urban centers. These realities contribute to the disruption and even splintering of historical, sociological and cultural continuums. From the point of view of languages, in addition to dialectal variation, these factors imply their dissociated development according to urban and rural contexts and a loss of knowledge of the languages of primary socialization, and this from the earliest age.
The disintegration of once-existing family structures and limited access to new languages and cultural codes weaken parents' involvement in their children's education.
OBJECTIVES
The aim is to understand and explain these upheavals and their damaging consequences on social, family and cultural structures, which profoundly affect people's lives. The complexity of the situations varies, among other things, according to the degree of remoteness of plural migrants everywhere from their home environment.
The type of relationship that migrants will establish with their new environment has implications for the future of families, particularly from a cultural point of view, in several dimensions. Hence the four axes of focus: (a) transmission of language of origin and education; (b) teaching the migrant's language; (c) social perception and status of the migrant's language; (d) and the place of multimedia, forms of expression and communication.
Axis language transmission and education: it encompasses above all educational practice at the informal level, i.e. through family participation, and at the formal level, i.e. the relationship to language policies in their role as institutional regulators of language teaching and use; what are the functions of literature and the various genres of oral literature in language transmission?
Teaching the migrant's language: this looks at teaching in both contexts: what is taught in the migrant's regions/countries of origin; what forms of teaching can be developed in the context of migration?
Axis social perception and status of the migrant's language : this axis first questions linguistic dynamics in the collective life of immigrants, loyalty in relation to the language of origin. At the same time, it questions the reciprocal management (immigrants and host population) of human relations and social readjustments: is it a question of syncretic management, by exclusion or then by hierarchization?
Multimedia axis, forms of expression and communication : this third axis focuses on the concept of communication in a broad sense, which can manifest itself as a verbal or artistic act, public, collective or individual, solemn or informal, in the media or en in the form of tales in social networks, maxims and proverbs, among others.
Contributions
Framing their reflections within an interdisciplinary framework, contributors are invited to position their contributions within one of the following axes and in relation to one of the following tracks:
- linguistic description or impact of contact languages in terms of phonology, morphology, syntax or semantics, among others ;
- literature and orality: solemn speeches, narration, storytelling, proverbs, among others;
- sociolinguistic aspects: language and culture contact, language policy;
- didactic practices and modes of language transmission: in family and teaching contexts, in initiation rites, etc. functions and uses of literature and the various genres of oral literature;
- graphies, alphabets and transcriptions (ajami, Latin characters), transcription and translation problems as well as editorial issues ;
- language use in social media: Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, among others, illocutionary forms and purposes;
- language in the context of migration;
- language in the arts and public media;
- history and anthropo-sociology in a migratory context;
All axes can be approached in relation to a language or from a cross-disciplinary perspective.
