Warmikuna (Women). Orality, memory and autochthony
This symposium proposes to think about autochthony, orality and memory in the Americas from the νοίχ of indigenous women. Often presented as "guardians of territories" ου "bearers of memory", they nonetheless remain marginalized in spaces of knowledge, in linguistic policies as well as in the institutional conservation arrangements for archives and narratives. This colloquium intends to shift this gaze in order to analyze their epistemological contributions, their linguistic circulations and their modes of political action.
At the crossroads of territorial struggles, colonial history and contemporary violence (feminicide, forced sterilization, disappearances), indigenous women have founded pioneering collectives and driven major mobilizations. Their presence, in both rural and urban environments, and the central rόle they occupy in oral linguistic transmission, make them key players in understanding national memories and the processes of revitalizing indigenous languages. The recent rise of digital activism, music in indigenous languages ου visual creations also reveal a renewal of forms of enunciation and transmission.
Α Starting from orality - while dialoguing with writing, image, performance ου translation - this symposium will highlight non-hegemonic narratives, living archives and emerging productions. Developed as part of the Warmikuna (Women) - Voices, Faces and Memories project, this colloquium broadens the reflection to a trans-American scale and will bring together researchers, artists and activists around papers, workshops, screenings and performances, in order to create a space for sustainable research and transmission on issues of gender, memory and indigenous languages.
