Speech by Armen DONIKYAN -TANIKYAN, Yeditepe University

Researcher in charge of French as a foreign language and methodology courses, Armen DONIKYAN -TANIKYAN defended her doctoral thesis entitled Étude socio-historique du recul de la langue arménienne et du développement de l'expression écrite (littérature et sciences sociales) en turc chez les Arméniens en Turquie contemporaine, in 2023 at the Centre de recherche Moyen-Orient Méditerranée - Inalco.

How are we to understand the development of a Turkish-language literature and the decline of Armenian literature among authors of the Istanbul Armenian minority since the last decades of the XXᵉ century? My presentation proposes to answer this question, crossing history, memory and literature. It is based on a biobibliographical study focusing on the lives and works of fifty authors of Armenian origin. In this context, the plurality of memorial narratives highlights the presence of personalities deeply marked by a bygone past and keen to contribute to the production of a historiography "from below".
