Yassir Mechelloukh was a guest on the programme ‘Questions d’Islam’ on France Culture
Yassir Mechelloukh, a PhD student in the history of Arabic philosophy at INALCO and a member of CERMOM, is the guest on the programme ‘Questions d’Islam’ on France Culture, which is devoted to Averroes.
Born in Córdoba in 1126, Abū al-Walīd Muḥammad Ibn Rushd — known in the West as Averroes — is one of the leading figures of medieval Arabic philosophy. A jurist, physician and philosopher, he is particularly famous for his commentaries on the works of Aristotle, which earned him, in the Latin tradition, the title of ‘Commentator’.
The programme traces the key stages of Averroes’s life and work. It explores several key aspects of his thought, notably his theory of the intellect and the relationship between faith and reason. It also examines the reception of his work in the Middle Ages and the construction of his image in the modern era.
