The Cahiers Balkaniques, created in 1981 by Henri Tonnet, aims to publicize the fruit of research on the Balkan space by the CEB (Centre d'Études Balkaniques de l'Inalco) team and its associates, notably through the publication of proceedings of colloquia, study days and round tables organized by the CEB, as well as work carried out in collaboration with researchers from other establishments (provincial and foreign). They also accept papers submitted by external authors if they correspond to CEB issues, and present theses defended by CEB doctoral students, as well as book reviews submitted by CEB members. Special issues may be published for major conferences. It should be emphasized that the CEB and its expressive organ, the Cahiers Balkaniques, are the only French center specifically devoted to the Balkan space, bringing together linguistic, literary, historical and geographical fields around transversal axes.

It is a biannual, multilingual, thematic and peer-reviewed journal.
