Foundation
Lopen (Dr) Karma Phuntsho teaches Buddhismand Bhutanese studies in Bhutanand abroad. He underwent full monastic training in India, before studying Sanskritand classical Indian religions and gaining a PhD in Oriental Studies from Oxford University. He has worked as a researcher at Cambridge University, CNRS (Paris) and the University of Virginia. He is responsible for the "Buddha-Nature" project for the Tsadra Foundation and speaks frequently on Bhutanese history, religion, culture and development. He is the author of six books, including "The History of Bhutan", which has become a standard reference work. He has written over two hundred and fifty articles and essays and directed a dozen research projects, including the documentation of Bhutan's cultural traditions.
He recently established "Bodhitse", a center for study and contemplation in Thimphu. His work has been widely covered by the media, including the BBC, Kuensel, The Bhutanese, Science, Forbes, Times of India, Channel News Asia...
He is the founder and chairman of the "Loden Foundation", a leading civil society organization (CSO) promoting Bhutanese education, entrepreneurship and culture since 1999 (Loden Initiatives).
