A performance of traditional songs and dances of the Paiwan people of Taiwan

To mark the visit to Paris of the Puljetji troupe from Taiwan, the Chair in Taiwanese Studies at Inalco invites you to a performance dedicated to the traditional songs and dances of the indigenous Paiwan people. Featuring participants from the ‘Transmission’ workshop.

This performance will highlight the richness of a living heritage in which song, dance and movement play a part in passing on memory, history and community ties. Through the Puljetji troupe’s performance, the audience will be able to experience different forms of Paiwan cultural expression in a vivid and direct way.

The performance will also give a prominent role to the participants in the workshop on passing on traditional Paiwan songs and dances. After 14 hours of training, they will present the fruits of their learning and offer their own interpretation of these practices, alongside the Puljetji troupe. This performance will thus provide a special occasion for the transmission, sharing and coming together of artists from Taiwan and participants trained in France.

This project is one of the main initiatives developed in France as part of the Taiwan–Europe Cultural Year and the Spotlight Taiwan programme – 臺灣光點計畫. It is organised and coordinated by the Chair in Taiwanese Studies at Inalco, with the aim of introducing the French public to the diversity of Taiwan’s cultures and fostering new forms of cultural dialogue.
