Energy efficiency plan
The Energy Sobriety Plan is part of a more global policy of environmental responsibility that Inalco intends to carry out, on its own scale, to mitigate its ecological footprint. Its approach is in line with the 2018 Elan law and then the Plan climat-biodiversité et transition écologique de l'Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche, drawn up by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, at the request of the Prime Minister. The target set was to reduce national consumption by 10% by 2024, which we have already fully achieved, and then to reduce it by 40% by 2030. Efforts will have to be continued in stages to achieve a 60% reduction by 2050.
Where do we stand?
The Pôle des langues et civilisations has been welcoming the public for over 10 years, and has been committed to a virtuous energy efficiency approach from the outset. Major technical optimization work has already been carried out, resulting in savings of around 20% on electricity and district heating over this period.
The remaining progress relies on the sobriety of our uses: we're all concerned!
Inalco is therefore setting up a communication campaign to raise awareness of eco-actions internally. The campaign will be deployed throughout the academic year at both our sites.

Lighting:
- Turn off general lighting when leaving a room (classroom, lecture hall, office...)
Electricity:
- turn off your desk lamp when leaving your workstation,
- turn off the video projector at the end of a lesson,
- turn off your computer when leaving the office.
Heating:
- from October to April (heating period), keep windows closed as much as possible to conserve heat. The Pôle building benefits from the best mechanical ventilation equipment enabling air to be constantly renewed in the premises without having to open the windows: ventilation by opening windows must therefore remain exceptional and controlled,
- in winter, adapt your clothing to the outside temperature and lower the radiator thermostat as much as possible.
Lifts:
- Prefer the stairs if you can to avoid running the elevators for a few floors. This way, you'll also maintain your muscles and cardiovascular system!
