The mission of the Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales is to provide initial and continuing training in the study of the languages and civilizations of Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, Oceania and the Amerindian peoples, as well as in the geography, history, institutions and political, economic and social life of the countries concerned.

Inalco offers a rich and varied range of continuing education courses for companies, associations, ministries and public administrations: group language courses, intensive courses, face-to-face or distance learning, preparation for language proficiency diplomas (DCL), preparation for Japanese (JLPT) or Chinese (HSK) tests, customized courses on cultural or geopolitical issues, resumption of studies (all our Bachelor's, Master's and institutional diplomas), university diplomas (DU), as well as Validation des Acquis (VAE and VAP).

Inalco is a major public institution of higher education of a scientific, cultural and professional nature under the supervision of the French Ministry of Education. Not subject to VAT for continuing education. The joint continuing education department is registered with the Ministry of Labor and Employment and Vocational Training to provide employees and jobseekers with training under a vocational training agreement.

On January 1, 2022, Inalco's Service Commun de la Formation Continue (SCFC) obtained the FCU quality certification issued by an independent third party, Bureau Veritas Certification, for a period of three years. This national recognition of the quality of its services strengthens the Institute's positioning in the professional training market.
