After a successful three-year pilot phase, the EUniWell Alliance has grown from seven to eleven partner universities, from eight different countries across Europe. In its proposal for 2023-2027, the Alliance extends its innovative, interdisciplinary approach to education, research, innovation, knowledge transfer and community engagement. The European Commission has approved the project with European funding of €14.4 million for the next four years.

With renewed support from the European Commission, EUniWell can build on its initial progress and become a sustainable European university focused on wellbeing. Professor Beatrix Busse, Director of Development at EUniWell, expressed her excitement at the announcement, "This is a crucial moment for EUniWell, as we can now fully realize our vision of becoming a pioneer in the field of wellness in Europe and globally. Thanks to the renewed support of the European Commission, we can continue to build on the progress we've made in the first three years and further deepen the impact we're having within our institutions and society as a whole."

Over the next four years, the EUniWell alliance will continue to create a new paradigm for higher education focused on multidimensional well-being, at personal, societal and planetary levels. Its multidisciplinary and intercultural approach aims to equip its students, researchers, staff and society with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle the complex challenges facing our world today, from individual mental health to global climate change.

Graham Harrison, Director General, also expressed his gratitude for the continued support of the European Commission, saying, "This funding will enable us to deepen our collaboration with our member universities and stakeholders, and advance our shared mission of creating a more sustainable and balanced wellbeing society. We are delighted to be part of the European Universities Initiative and look forward to the exciting opportunities ahead."

The latest Erasmus+ call allocated a record sum of 402.2 million euros to further roll out the European Universities Initiative. EUniWell's selection as a recipient of additional funding from the European Commission reaffirms its leading position in the field of wellbeing and its valuable contribution to a sustainable and inclusive future.

The EUniWell Alliance would like to express its gratitude to the dedicated team members and institutional stakeholders, academics, administrative staff as well as students, whose tireless efforts have been crucial in reaching this important milestone. We would also like to extend our warmest thanks to the European Commission for its continued support of our mission to create a new paradigm for higher education.

This renewed funding encourages EUniWell to continue its quest to promote well-being, sustainability and inclusion in order to have a positive impact on society. Our mission aligns with the Council of the European Union, which has noted that "well-being is a core objective of the European Union". This next step in our journey will build on the progress we've already made and refine our innovative, interdisciplinary approach to education, research, innovation, knowledge transfer and community engagement. EUniWell is excited to continue working towards our shared vision of a better future for all.

"L'Inalco joined EUniWell a few months ago and is delighted that the European Commission is enabling this fine academic alliance to continue its journey. Our institute is proud to be able to invest in this project, thus sharing its knowledge and expertise of the world's societies while affirming its European commitment to the service of well-being" declared Jean-François Huchet, President of Inalco.

"Nantes Université's commitment to EUniWell has been total from the Alliance's inception through to its expansion to include new partner universities. We are delighted with this renewed confidence from the European Commission, which validates our long-term vision and will enable us to confirm our position as a leading European player working for the well-being and active transformation of society", declared Carine Bernault, President of Nantes Université.
